JAM Sessions

Dance to the beat, play an instrument, and experience something unexpected with JAM Sessions, fun, interactive music and dance events hosted in conjunction with the Ford Theatre Foundation. The evening integrates live dance instruction from professional instructors with live band performances.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring a chair if you just plan on listening to the music. JAM Sessions are participatory and centered around movement and music. All JAMs are FREE, and all ages and skill levels are welcome.

JAM Sessions are a program of the Ford Theatre Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports the Ford Theatres through programs that engage and enrich surrounding communities.



2018 Lineup

March 1 – Celtic Dance

Gather together in fun, fellowship and laughter as you dance the céili! CnaG Gaelic League of LA’s dance division Céilí Rua (Wild Gathering) will lead you through the jig step movements of these traditional Irish social dances.

After the JAM, practice your new dance steps and stay for a free concert by The Ploughboys!

April 5 – Line Dance

Get ready for the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival by learning to Line Dance with Candy Sherwin. Candy will show you dance step sequences that will get everyone moving together as one. Dust off your boots and join in the lines!

Your new-found skills will come in handy as you listen to the sounds of The Mary White Band, whose energy and enthusiasm will make it hard to sit still.

May 3 – Tropical Dance

Move your body to the island beat! Andrea Rodriguez will make picking up the steps to this Latin American dance, originating from Columbia’s Caribbean coastal region and Panama, as easy as uno, dos, tres!

In between instructions, enjoy music by DJ Glenn and tropical drumming by Richard Herrera!

June 7 – Cha Cha Dance

One, two, cha-cha-cha! The Cha-Cha is a happy, carefree and fun latin dance! D’Wilfri DanceArt and Entertainment located right here in Santa Clarita will teach you the one, two, three of this fun dance!

In between sessions enjoy live music!

July 5 – Pacific Island Dance

Sway your hips to the beat of the drum! Members of the Kalakeke Pacific Island Dance Company will bring Tahitian island culture to life through the fast paced dance moves of Ori Tahiti (Tahitian dance), set to the rhythms of Tahitian drums. Live music from Jason Arimoto and Friends, who perform a wide repertoire of covers and originals ranging from Americana and blues to Hawaiian.

August 2 – Swing Dance

Grab your kicks and boogie the night away! Pasadena Ballroom Dance Association will break down the swing dance steps, pivots and turns so anyone can join in the fun! Singles and couples of all ages are welcome. Live music from The Big Butter Jazz Band, who is dedicated to playing New Orleans traditional jazz, which is full of beautiful melodies, infectious energy, and smooth rhythms that you can’t help but dance to.

September 6 – Salsa Dance

Dance the Rueda de Casino! Join local dance instructor Jonathan Kraut and Santa Clarita Chapter of Rueda In the Park performers in an exciting exploration of this fun social dance, a Cuban form of salsa danced in a circle. Enjoy a musical performance by Fay Roberts and Orquesta Charangoa! Leave inspired, engaged and better at communicating through movement!

October 4 – Hip Hop Dance

Get ready to bust a move with The GR818ers, a group that’s turned hip hop into more than a dance, as they use their moves to creatively connect communities. Santa Clarita is the latest to benefit as the group, which includes world-renowned dancers, comes to the latest JAM Session to lead you in the modern hip hop steps while you listen to the sounds spun by DJ Roxswift.
